Joni Ernst called out for SCOTUS flip-flop by billboard next to her Des Moines office

DES MOINES, IA, October 12 - Supreme Billboards, a Super PAC founded in late September by Austin software engineer Jesse Kelly, 33, unveiled a billboard in Des Moines, Iowa today that targets Senator Joni Ernst (R-CO) for flip-flopping on the question of whether confirmation hearings should be held for Supreme Court Justices during an election year. The billboard, located on Court Avenue east of 3rd St, shows the title of a 2016 press release from Ernst, "Give the people a voice in SCOTUS debate."

Supreme Billboards isn't your typical Super PAC. Kelly, a novice in the political realm, founded the group at the end of September in response to the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

“A few days after [Justice Ginsburg]’s death, I went through the usual song and dance of calling my senators, leaving them messages, and writing them emails,” says Kelly. “I was frustrated by the hypocrisy of it all, given their positions on Merrick Garland, and I was frustrated by how easy it was for them to ignore me.”

That frustration drove Kelly to rally together neighbors and friends, register with the FEC as a Super PAC, and launch a nationwide advertising campaign to oppose the re-election of Republican senators who have flip-flopped on the question of SCOTUS appointments during an election year. Each of their billboards targets a specific senator, and each uses a quote from 2016 to highlight the hypocrisy of their current rush to confirm a Supreme Court Justice.

“So far we've got boards up for John Cornyn in Dallas, Cory Gardner in Denver, and now Joni Ernst in Des Moines,” Kelly said.
